Fairmont Maldives, Sirru Fen Fushi

Shaviyani Atoll

Secret water island, an aquatic tropical haven

One of the only resorts located in the idyllic Shaviyani Atoll, a breathtaking 55 minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport takes you to a hidden oasis amidst a 600-hectare lagoon, bringing true meaning to its name ‘Sirru Fen Fushi’ - or ‘secret water island’ in the local language.

120 luxury villas await you at Fairmont Maldives, Sirru Fen Fushi with a choice of mesmerising locations from the Beach Villas set amidst the tropical surroundings of the 1km palm fringed powder beaches, or the Water Villas perched above the crystal clear turquoise lagoon for the iconic over water Maldivian experience. The elegant yet boho-chic villas have a distinct Maldivian influence with thatched roofs and natural interior elements paired with copper and wood finishes, and wide open spaces bringing the magical outdoors in. Venture into the lush heart of the island and you will uncover castaway-style Tented Jungle Villas nestled in the shady mangroves for a safari-esque experience. The archipelago’s most luxurious glamping experience can also be found closer to shore in the Beach Tented Villas. Each with their own private pool, the array of impressive villas on offer range from one to three bedrooms and, together with the resort's extensive reel of facilities, make Sirru Fen Fushi an ideal choice for both couples and families alike.

Dining at Fairmont Maldives, Sirru Fen Fushi can be enjoyed in a multitude of ways. From the culinary diversity of the four restaurants, to bespoke castaway destination dining experiences in awe-inspiring locations on, or off-island. Open throughout the day, Raha Market offers a hearty mix of global flavours served in a laid-back bazaar style setting. Aptly named after the colour blue in the local language, Azure is symbolic to the delicious fresh seafood fare on offer and its spellbinding views of the Indian Ocean; gourmet cuisine and fine wine being the order of the day here. Head to Kata for a Japanese signature dining experience at the water's edge where contemporary tastes meet authentic soul, from delicate sushi bites to smoky robatayaki grills. Sake and sundowners can be enjoyed in sophistication at the Kata rooftop lounge with a first class backdrop of the sunset and incredible panoramic surroundings. Onu Onu bar is the laid back social hub of the island earning its name in the Maldivian language for the bamboo wood from which it is made. Located on the beachfront, Onu Onu makes for a perfect retreat for lazy afternoon cocktails through to evening entertainment illuminated by torchlight and firepits.

Fairmont's iconic 200-meter swimming pool, stretching from edge to edge of the island, is the longest of its kind in the country. Undoubtedly the resort's most pioneering feature, however, and yet another first in the Maldives, is the magnificent Coralarium. Homage to both Accor Hotels and the Fairmont brand's approach and reputation towards sustainable tourism, the Coralarium is a marriage of art and sustainability. This partial underwater art installation created by naturalist and artist Jason deCaires Taylor is home to a thriving coral propagation project, one of the many sustainable eco-initiatives practiced at Sirru Fen Fushi with the vision to raise awareness that encourages long-term reef protection and sustainable tourism. This eco conscious resort is also home to the first-ever Sustainability Lab in the Maldives, a dedicated education centre which regenerates and transforms plastic waste into bespoke souvenirs and furniture, and recycles ghost nets into accessories. Other sustainability practices include the resorts onsite desalination water plant and glass bottling, tree planting, and turtle release initiatives, to name a few.

Further celebrating the island's harmonious affinity with nature and water, guests can revel in abundant marine life activities that this thriving and unspoilt atoll has to offer. With its very own 9km house reef just a short swim from the shore, a plethora of captivating species are waiting to be discovered from exotic corals and colourful tropical fish, resident turtles, as well as its very own manta cleaning station offering a chance for divers and snorkelers to encounter these majestic gentle giants firsthand in their native environment. The surrounding waters are also a prime location to spot large pods of bottlenose and spinner dolphins.

Watersports lovers will not be disappointed with the array of low to high-adrenaline activities on offer, from kayaking and windsurfing over sparkling lagoons, slicing the waves by jetski, or soaking up a birds eye view of the magnificent atoll below while parasailing.

True to Fairmont’s philosophy of embracing the cultural essence of the destination through guest experiences, Sirru Fen Fushi offers an enticing range of authentic Maldivian adventures to explore. From local island discoveries, leisurely dhoni sailing, and traditional hand and line fishing, to cooking classes with a native Maldivian chef. Guests can also enjoy exploring the Indian Ocean in style aboard the resort's luxury yacht for dolphin spotting and overnight cruises.

Back on land, the healing aura of nature and well-being are entwined at the Willow Stream Spa. This 2000 sqm wellness area is a rustic-chic refuge for the mind, body, and soul where treatments are inspired by the soothing Indian Ocean and use a fusion of natural herbs and oils. Lofty spaces, outdoor treatment areas, and breezy ocean-air passageways are synonymous with the island's natural Maldivian roots, while a serene jacuzzi pool makes for an inviting pre or post-treatment soak. Guests can choose to pump up the pace at the state-of-the-art gymnasium or explore the many fitness classes and activities on offer, from kickboxing, tennis, and volleyball to yoga.

In tune with Sirru Fen Fushi’s inspiration of nature and art, the resort's on-site art studio encourages guests to bring out their creative spirit, with resident and visiting artists sharing their passion and guidance. Families and children will enjoy the various daytime activities on offer including indiginous crafts, canvas paintings and jewelry making. More fun activities can also be found at the dedicated Kids Club to keep younger guests engaged and entertained, from toddlers to teens.
